ABOUT CASA DE BECQUE
Casa de Becque nestles in the heart of the Sierra Cabrera mountains in a hamlet of 8 houses, near Mojacar in the province of Almeria in southern Spain. We are 3 km from the small Moorish village of Cabrera, which has a wealth of Moroccan-style architecture and an abundance of minarets and Moorish arches. There are two restaurants (one Moroccan) serving lunch dinner and tapas. Visit www.lospastores.es and www.riadcabrera.es
We are 10 minutes from the village of Turre, which has a very good supermarket, a Friday street market selling locally grown fruit and vegetables, flowers and plants, along with the usual souvenirs, clothes, beachwear etc. It also has many bars and restaurants to suit every pocket! We have a share in a tennis court on the road below us and you can see Cortijo Grande Golf Course and Rancho Cabrera Riding School from our terrace. There are several other Golf Clubs nearby
We are 10 minutes from the historic town of Mojacar, which is famed for its charming hillside setting, quaint narrow streets, and Moorish archways which date back to 1450 AD. Mojacar also has miles of sandy beaches and some very good beach bars (chiringuitos)] and restaurants
HOW TO GET HERE
We are 45 minutes from Almeria airport, one and a quarter hours from Murcia, and two and a quarter hours from Alicante. In the spring, summer and autumn Almeria handles flights from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, and Dublin, to name but a few, and in winter has flights from Gatwick. Murcia and Alicante handle flights from all over Great Britain right through the year. All these airports have motorway access to within 20 minutes of Casa de Becque, and on the short drive from the motorway, you will pass herb farms, see the shepherds with their flocks of sheep and goats, travel through orange and lemon groves, and see olive, almond, and fig trees growing
THE HOUSE AND GUEST ACCOMMODATION
Over the last 6 years the Cortijo-style house has been sympathetically renovated, and now offers 3 ensuite double/twin bedrooms with charming private terraces with breathtaking mountain and sea views, cane furniture, grapevines and jasmine, wisteria, passionflowers and other semi-tropical plants. There is a private pool for guests' use. In a former life Chris was an antique dealer, bistro owner, florist, and garden plant seller, and hopefully this has all been put to good use at Casa de Becque. We love to cook for our guests and use as many home-grown fruit, vegetables and herbs as possible - not to mention the rather awesome Limoncello!
The local flora and fauna includes wild poppies, iris, wild herbs and mimosa in the spring and many tropical plants and trees in summer, autumn and winter.Being on the migration route from Africa to to northern Europe, there is a multitude of bird species, including black wheatear, Sardinian warblers, redstarts, pied flycatchers, little egrets, booted eagles, swifts, swallows, martins, hoopoes, red-legged partridge, nightjars, larks, bee-eaters, hawks, owls, and ibis, many of which are permanent residents. Tortoises are indigenous to this part of Spain, and in the valley below live foxes and wild boar
